Comparison with prelimiary task.
As you can see i have improved the name of the magazine to fit the genre, each of the sell lines are now related to an"R&B" theme, not like the preliminary task.
By experimenting with both a compact digital camera which i used to take the original picture of the young girl within my preliminary task and then the SLR digital camera, which is what i used for my final product. I researched the task in further detail when producing my final product and i believe this enabled me to achieve a better outcome than my first try of the magazine.
Producing my preliminmary task did help me achieve my final outcome in some ways but i believe my research made me produce and include conventions of other magazines a lot further.

Improvements throughout project.
Progression throughout the project.
Looking at the comparison from my preliminary task I am able to see the improvements I have made throughout the amount of work placed into to the project through the amount of time allocated. From constructing this product it has enabled my technological skills to become of a higher standard from working in photo shop successfully to being able to produce the images that were suitable for the magazine I wanted to have as my final outcome. Using the SLR cameras correctly is a skill I wanted to improve and by experimenting I have been able to achieve this.My preliminary task was very simple and didn’t fit the conventions of the magazines I went onto research within the music industry. I am glad I was able to experiment at the early stage of producing my magazine as I have been able to reflect on this and it has become clear to me what real industries aim for, and how they manage to achieve the outcome.

Distribution.
What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
When coming to deciding on which company to choose to publish my magazine I would use IPC media
as they are one of the leading media institutions in the UK, and popular magazines such as “NME” and
“Guitar & Bass” both use them as their publisher and as these magazines are achieving and succeeding
in this type of industry I would want to aim for the best when publishing my magazine.
This company appeals to a wide variety of audiences as they are profesional and diverse company. It enables the company to distribute my magazine resulting with a positive representation towards the public and I can prove this by how they have presented a variety of music but also other themed magazines.
"NME" are a popular music magazine in the media industry which uses IPC as their distributer, this gives me a positive mentality about using them as this company have achieved lots of attention within the public eye.

Technology.
Digital SLR
On each of my photos I used a SLR camera as I wanted each colour to be captured and when I changed the lighting I wanted this to affect the way the picture was portrayed. With having experience with the camera I was able to judge exactly how I wanted the pictures and know the exact lighting I wanted to use, I did have to experiment when judging what lighting would be best to use but both soft and hard worked well in the pictures I wanted to produce.
Within then SLR camera you can also apply your own settings, which is very different to the digital compact camera. Different shutter speeds can be used to produce quality images and a lot of eqipment to go with an SLR camera such as a tripod enabled me to produce an overall better set of images.
Lighting
Here I decided to experiment with the focus of the camera and also the lighting.
In contrast to the above image I believe this is of a lower standard due to her facial expression and body language not being a prominent. Having already planned my shoot for my magazine I knew exactly what my aims were.
Digital (compact)
When producing my preliminary task I experimented with a digital compact camera but after using one and comparing it to how the SLR camera works you can clearly see the difference and the quality of the pictures on the SLR camera were of a much higher standard.

Planning my shoot.
As I wanted my shoot to for fill everything I have aimed through my planning I decided to put into my own words what it was that I exactly wanted. To achieve this I didn’t want to produce a mind map as I wanted something to take to the shoot that would guide me through each step of the way. By producing this poster/information guide it enabled me to achieve the best possible pictures i was able to.
Every single detail was produced on this sheet and was very helpful in the photo shoot process. The makeup, props, lighting and model were all taken into account and after producing this plan I was able to succeed in my photo shoot and take the images I had aimed to shoot.

Like i have done with the front cover, this is what i aim to produce with my contents page. Again i will keep the colour scheme so it fits in the theme of magazine.
I want the lines from the top of the page to connect with the main image to look as if the lines itself are holding the image into place, the "CONTENTS" text will be very bold and as i have shown on the drawing i want the text to be on different levels. I want all the writing to consist of red and black on this page as i think this sets the theme throughout and it will continue onto my double page spread.

Costumes and makeup.
When taking my images for my magazine cover i want it to have a classy theme so a simple plain black dress is the costume i have chosen to use throughout. When taking the pictures for the contents page i do want these to be slightly different so a different hairstyles and dress will be placed into this!
The makeup i will include will be very prominant as i want this to be a main factor that produces a direct address with the audience, as it is an R&B magazine most of the stars that appear on them in the "normal" world are also fashion icons so using these specific costumes and makeup choices reflect again to appeal to the audience.

I felt i needed to produce a mind map with my own ideas on for the front cover as i felt i was struggling with this. I used many different headings such as - Advertisement, sell lines and the colour scheme and from the information i collected during my interview i know have a very clear image of what final product i would like to produce.
Group Discussion- Research
I gathered a group of male and females who were interested in the R&B genre. I wanted to investigate more into what my magazine needs to include to appeal to a variety of audiences, for different ages and different genders.
I carried out an interview to collect this information. I asked the group a number of questions as listed below and here are the main results of what came i achieved.
1) How often to you buy magazines?
The main answer that came out was once every week. The group said this was because of money and they like to keep updated with the music industry. With this i decided to make my magazine weekly. Also, with this question i decided to ask them about money.
2) How much do you pay for your music magazine?
The main answer that came out was £2.50 and the group said that this is the maximum they are willing to spend. To appeal to all audiences i have decided to price my magazine at £2.20 as it shows they are getting a bargain but is also a price people would pay for a good quality magazine, which reflects on the magazines overall reputation.
3) What colour scheme attracts you the most?
I got the group to discuss different magazines they have seen on the market and what colour schemes most appealed to them. The main colours that came out of discussion were- blue, black, red and white. From this i have decided to use a black, red and white scheme because these are classy colours and this is a very important part of the magazine for me.
4) What names can you think of for my magazine?
The names that came out were- Jump, Revolution, Volume and Pump. Out of all these i came to the conclusion that 'Volume' fitted my aspirations as it related to music and sounded effective- this was a bonus.
5) What is your favourite part of a magazine?
My group came out with that they liked interviews with celebrities and celebrity gossip the most. They also mentioned that they don't like too much information in one section as they loose interest and concentration. With this information i have decided to have an article or an interview on my double page spread with images to make sure the mature reader doesn't loose interest and is willing to buy my magazine again.
I found this interview very helpful as it has enabled me to be very clear on the specific rules i would like to follow when producing my magazine.

Front cover draft.
Here i have produced my own front cover of the magazine i wish to finish with. I will hope my final product will be similar to this layout as it is successful for the audience i aim to sell the magazine to. The colour scheme i have chosen to use consists of black, white and red.
I have kept the front of the magazine simple but with enough information on as when discussing what people look for when buying a magazine this is what the majority of people are put off by. My magazine will be aimed at the younger generation and everyone knows most teens will want the magazine to be: easy to understand, not loaded with information and text supported by images of fashion icons.
I have included the price of the magazine and a brarcode which is a simple procedure when making a magazine and then have gone onto label where the main image, sell lines and advertisement are going to be placed. The text i will be using throughout will remain to the colour scheme i have chosen but have chosen to make different text all different sizes so important detail will catch te readers attention straight away.

Preliminary task.
The preliminary task i produced at the start of my research has enabled me to become more confident when using photoshop and this will help me massively when coming to edit my own magazine.
Magazines consist of the main image being a mid shot and this is why i have done this for this specific task, it is a very simple front cover and my final product will contain a lot more information. I have simply placed in some sell lines and detail with the "First Isssue" sign in the left hand corner. The masthead again has a very simple font being used but it is easy on the eye and clear to read.
