Group Discussion- Research

I gathered a group of male and females who were interested in the R&B genre. I wanted to investigate more into what my magazine needs to include to appeal to a variety of audiences, for different ages and different genders.

I carried out an interview to collect this information. I asked the group a number of questions as listed below and here are the main results of what came i achieved.

1) How often to you buy magazines?
The main answer that came out was once every week. The group said this was because of money and they like to keep updated with the music industry. With this i decided to make my magazine weekly.  Also, with this question i decided to ask them about money.

2) How much do you pay for your music magazine?
The main answer that came out was £2.50 and the group said that this is the maximum they are willing to spend. To appeal to all audiences i have decided to price my magazine at £2.20 as it shows they are getting a bargain but is also a price people would pay for a good quality magazine, which reflects on the magazines overall reputation.

3) What colour scheme attracts you the most?
I got the group to discuss different magazines they have seen on the market and what colour schemes most appealed to them. The main colours that came out of discussion were- blue, black, red and white. From this i have decided to use a black, red and white scheme because these are classy colours and this is a very important part of the magazine for me.

4) What names can you think of for my magazine?
The names that came out were- Jump, Revolution, Volume and Pump. Out of all these i came to the conclusion that 'Volume' fitted my aspirations as it related to music and sounded effective- this was a bonus.

5) What is your favourite part of a magazine?
My group came out with that they liked interviews with celebrities and celebrity gossip the most. They also mentioned that they don't like too much information in one section as they loose interest and concentration. With this information i have decided to have an article or an interview on my double page spread with images to make sure the mature reader doesn't loose interest and is willing to buy my magazine again.

I found this interview very helpful as it has enabled me to be very clear on the specific rules i would like to follow when producing my magazine.
